Western Boxing

Boxing has been around for quite a long time, probably around 4000 years in fact. It wasn’t a recognized sport until about 700 BC and due to the violent nature of the sport, faced some strife to get where it has today. Western Boxing was still considered a brutal sport during the early 20th century and because of that was outlawed in many countries. Guidelines and Regulations finally paved the way to establish Western Boxing as an Olympic sport in 1908.

Western Boxing as a fighting style has strong roots in self-defense and should always be considered in mixed martial arts. Our USA Karate style mixes together many different influences for a blend of the perfect mixed martial arts! To learn more about us you can sign up for classes today or feel free to Contact Us!

Competitive Western Boxing Rules

Fighters are categorized by weight class to ensure fair fights. Modern Day Western Boxing doesn’t allow any hitting below the belt, to the back of the head, the back, kicking or the use of any other part of the body. Calls will also be made for head-butting, holding for longer than a certain period of time, tripping, pushing, biting, or spitting of any kind.

Competitive Boxing is usually held in a square roped boxing ring, with a referee and a number of rounds (anywhere from 3-12 rounds). There is normally a 1-minute break between rounds at which time advice is given to the fighters, along with water and any medical attention needed. Wins are decided by a knockout, by a referee call, a towel thrown in by the corner to say their fighter has had enough, or by points awarded by judges.
